Kinderen Overbruggen
Together with 180 children aged 11–12, Fleur van den Berg developed a participatory artwork for a bridge in Leiden. Under the theme “Create a new reality,” the children brainstormed about the future: new inventions, ways of living, working, traveling, communicating, and the role of nature. They then painted their visions on large sheets of paper, which Van den Berg combined into an overall design for the bridge.
The children were also involved in the making of the glass applications. After a short introduction to glass cutting, each child cut one or more pieces of glass that became part of the final work. The project connected imagination with hands-on making, while also aligning with the municipal youth policy theme “Safe Growing Up,” which encourages collaboration between local organizations to strengthen the social fabric of the neighborhood.
